2. Omaha Central (1-0)
3. Bellevue West (1-0)
4. Millard North (1-0)
5. Papillion-LaVista South (1-0)
6. Millard West (0-1)
7. Grand Island (1-0)
8. Creighton Prep (1-0)
9. Lincoln Southwest (1-0)
10. Millard South (0-1)
Bob Sez: Opening week of play went mostly to form though there was nothing easy for either No. 1 North (20-13, last second win over No. 6 Millard West) nor No. 2 Omaha Central (28-18 over interesting Lincoln North Star). It'd be pretty easy to make the case Bellevue West should rise to No. 1 after its 41-0 demolition of youthful former No. 7 Omaha Westside, but we will let things simmer a week. No. 4 Millard North needed two overtimes to get the job done but managed to hold off previously unranked Millard South (weird to even write that last part), 27-21. Millard West drops a spot, Grand Island rises a spot after a 35-28 win over arch rival Kearney and Prep moves up two spots after its surprisingly one-sided 42-8 rout of Papillion-LaVista. Lincoln Southwest is new to the rankings after its thrilling 24-22 win over Lincoln Southeast and Millard South earns the 10th spot after its showing against Millard North.
BOBOMETER RANKINGS
Top Games for Week 1:
1. Bellevue West at Papio South. Can Papio stop the Belle West aerial circus? Can Belle West stop Papio South's power run game?
2. Millard West vs. Millard North (Buell). Millard West looked pretty darn legit in Week 1. Millard North goes for Millard Sweep.
3. Grand Island at Lincoln Southeast, Thursday, Seacrest Field. Always love this game and a Southeast win wouldn't be an upset.
Class B
1. Omaha Skutt (1-0)
2. McCook (1-0)
3. Elkhorn South (1-0)
4. Sidney (1-0)
5. Norris (1-0)
6. Scottsbluff (1-0)
7. York (0-1)
8. Crete (1-0)
9. Gretna (1-0)
10. Elkhorn (1-0)
Bob Sez: McCook held up its end of the bargain, beating Alliance 23-0, but there is no denying Skutt the top spot after its impressive 42-7 win over former No. 4 Beatrice. (Now would be a good time for Skutt fans to remind ol' Huskerland Bob, "we told you so." Oh wait, you already did...) Not sure how to proceed from there but we are moving Elkhorn South into the No. 3 spot after its 42-0 blanking of always good Omaha Gross. Sidney moves up a spot after a 48-0 win over Class C-1 Chadron and Norris vaults to No. 5 from No. 10 after its 21-20 win over former No. 3 York, which falls to No. 7. Scottsbluff holds at No. 6 following a 37-0 win over Scottsbluff while Crete (which beat Aurora 36-29 in overtime) stays put at No. 8. Gretna is new to the top ten and moves in at No. 9 following a 26-19 win over Lincoln Pius X and Elkhorn slips a spot but stays ranked after a 24-14 win over Blair. First-week losers Beatrice, Aurora and Pius are knocking on the door and, like you, I noticed Plattsmouth's impressive 28-9 win over Ralston. Unranked Seward, which crushed Waverly 49-0, has a chance to make a huge jump with a win over Crete this week.
BOBOMETER RANKINGS
Top Games for Week 1:
1. Seward at Crete. One of the great rivalry games in the state and both teams looked impressive in opening wins.
2. Elkhorn South at Bennington. Elkhorn South is a program on the fast track, one which could be even better than expected.
3. McCook at Grand Island Northwest. One game a season does not make but Northwest looked explosive on offense in its opener.
4. Hastings at Scottsbluff. Hastings scored 34 points in its opener, a high water mark for the Tigers, and it will be interesting to see if they can make a dent in an outstanding Scottsbluff defense.
