Huskerland Blowback: Regions III-IV

Neligh-Oakdale's Grant WHite (7) was 26-of-30 passing for 423 yards and six touchdowns as his team beat No. 2-ranked Creighton in their Class D-1 opener. Main beneficiary of White's performance - or was it the other way around? - was senior receiver Tyson Belitz, who caught 10 passes for 228 yards and three TDs. (Bob Jensen/Huskerland)
Region III Blowback
Who What When Why

1. Grant White to Tyson Belitz

Neligh-Oakdale's passing combination.

72-44 win over Creighton last Thurdsday.

White was 26-of-30 (good grief!) for 423 yards and 6 TDs. Belitz caught 14 passes for 228 yards and three TDs. (yawn)

2. Pick a Reimers.

Palmer's dynamic senior duo.

Helped Palmer to a 42-26 win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

Kaden passed for 184 yards and three TDs, Hunter had 187 yards of offense and 19 tackles.

3. Omaha Burke

Class A rapid riser.

Blasted No. 6 Omaha Central 38-0 on Opening Night.

We knew Burke'd be good, but this is a little crazy.

4. Battle Creek passing game.

Missed one.

Not sure, but then again the Braves only passed twice in beating Yutan 20-14 in a battle of C-2 top five teams.

Not sure why they passed twice. Guess we'll start calling it Air Carlson.

5. Sixteen candles.

Number of times (16) Bradley Bunner ran the ball against Pender and didn't score.

Then again, he DID score eight other times, rushing for 284 yards in his team's 58-50 win.

When you got a pony, you ride him.

Coachspeak: Nathan Glause, Palmer. "This was a nice win for our program. We felt our guys executing well in all three phases. We were very encouraged by the effort and toughness our guys displayed throughout the whole game. We know this was just game one, but we are excited and look forward to playing Creighton Prep in game two. We must make sure we correct our mistakes from Week 1 and fight to get better every day to move forward."

My Hero: "We thought both Nick and Andrew Henrich played very well. Nick, just a 10th grader, made some big plays and led the team in tackles, while brother Andrew, senior defensive end and team captain, came away with four sacks. On offense, first-year starter Tyler Chadwick, another 10th grader, lead the offense well and distributed the ball well to playmakers Alec Ellis at wide receiver and AP Ponder at running back." - Coach Limongi

Coachspeak: Nathan Glause, Palmer. "We played a consistent game against (Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family). Our experience showed as we stayed focused during the highs and lows of the game. We were able to answer back each time our opponent scored and we distributed the ball well so the other team could not focus on stopping just one or two players. Our defense did a nice job of containing their option game, forcing them into many third-and-long situations."

My Hero: Besides the Reimers, the Tigers also received big-time performances from Chandler Doncheski and Michael Wolfe, as well as defensive linemen Tanner Tibbetts, Armando Ruvalcaba and Dominic Donahey.

Region IV Blowback
Who What When Why

1. Ryan Dailey.

Bishop Neumann's secret weapon.

In his team's 14-7 win over Norfolk Catholic, a win which moved Neumann to No. 1 ranking in C-1.

First a tough-guy interception in the end zone, then the game-winning TD catch. You wish you were him, admit it.

2. Cramps.

Elkhorn South's Moses Bryant overcomes cramps, lights up York D.

In No. 1 Elkhorn South's 34-3 win over No. 3-ranked York.

Overcoming cramps on a muggy, humid night, Bryant broke off a 46-yard run and scored on an eight-yarder to give the Storm its momentum changing TD drive.

3. Patches O'Hoolihan.

Frankly, it was more than the Luck of the Irish that helped Sacred Heart hold off Lourdes last weekend, 34-30.

Late, friends, late. Trailing 30-28, well, late in the game, the Irish got a key defensive strip from Brandon Scheitel to set up the winning score.

Irish earlier had received four TD passes from new starting QB Drew Bippes.

4. Johnsonville vs. Fairbury Brand.

How's this for a conflict - Jacob Johnson making a name for himself in the home of Fairbury's beloved hot dogs.

Last Friday, he helped our C-1 darkhorse Jeffs grab a 47-3 opening win over David City.

Early returns show we might be right, the Jeffs might be one of "those teams to watch out for."

5. Shelby chain crew.

Only the greatest in the state. Come on now, you knew that.

Since Randy

Grossnicklaus told me so last year. He's never been more right.

Well, frankly, Randy Grossnicklaus. :)

Coachspeak: Doug Goltz, Falls City Sacred Heart. "We were outplayed by Lourdes in the first half. We made some adjustments that helped in the second half. This was a good win against a solid team and coming from behind should give us some confidence.

My Hero: "Brandon Scheitel rushing the passer and forcing a lose the ball, and then grabbing it and returning it to our nine-yard line was a huge play in the game." - Coach Goltz.
