Casey Freyer, Millard, Neb., 5-11, 220 pounds, defensive tackle. Earned all-class, all-state football honors at defensive tackle and was a two-time state champion wrestler at Millard North…Plans to participate in both sports at Chadron State…Participated in 115 tackles, including 15 for losses and five quarterback sacks, last fall, when Millard North was 11-1…Also started two years at offensive guard…Had a 26-5 record as a junior and went 32-0 last winter while winning two straight Class A 215-pound state wrestling titles… Although Freyer is perhaps undersized for defensive tackle, CSC coaches believe he has the strength, quickness and tenacity to become a standout similar to Kory Richardson, who concluded his career in 1998, and Rob Evans, a junior on this year’s team…A love for hunting helped attract him to CSC…A member of FCA in high school…Son of Darrell and Lori Freyer.
Josh Hiatt, North Platte, 5-11, 205 pounds, linebacker. Started at outside linebacker as a junior and moved to middle linebacker last fall, when North Platte had an 11-2 record and was the runner-up in the Class A state playoffs. He led the Bulldogs in tackles with 168 and was named to the all-state team by Huskerland Prep. He also played fullback on offense and plays soccer in the spring. Son of Irving and Renae Hiatt.
Jeremy Hitchcock, Alliance, 6-1, 250 pounds, defensive line. A three-year starter on both offense and defense for the Bulldogs. He was named to the Omaha World-Herald and Huskerland Prep first-team Class B all-state teams last fall…Also played in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl this summer…He also throws the shot for the track team and is an honor roll student. Son of Randy and Kolinda Hitchcock.
Kalan Jones, Grand Island, 6-0, 210 pounds, running back or outside linebacker. Carried the ball 134 times for 696 yards last fall and also started at linebacker. He was named the Islanders’ most valuable player and was placed on the Heartland Super Squad. He’s also a sprinter on the track team and was a member of Grand Island’s all-class state champion 400-meter relay team as a sophomore. Son of Dale and Nancy Jones.
Tim Kelley, North Platte, 6-2, 245 pounds, offensive line. A two-year starter on both the offensive and defensive lines on North Platte’s outstanding team, which reached the Class A state championship game…Earned all-conference and all-district honors and was received all-state honorable mention.. A member of the National Honor Society. Son of Doug and Theresa Kelley.
Jami Klein, Sargent, 6-3, 230 pounds, linebacker. Was first-team all-state and named the defensive captain of the Class D-2 team selected by Huskerland Prep. He also is the leading scorer and rebounder for the basketball team and throws the shot and discus for the track team. Son of Ron and Tami Klein.
Robbie Klinetobe, Battle Creek, 6-2, 245 pounds, defensive lineman. A first-team Class C-2 all-stater who started for three years for the Braves. He also has an 87-3 record as a wrestler over the past three seasons, including a 21-0 mark as a heavyweight this winter. He placed second at 215 pounds at the state tournament as a sophomore and third last year. He is undecided on whether he will wrestle in college. .Played in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl this summer…He was president of the letterman’s club. Son of Lee and Terri Klinetobe. The last name is pronounced Klinetob with a silent e at the end.
Kase Kossman, Kearney, 6-1, 230 pounds, fullback-linebacker. He missed the first half of his senior year after being injured in the pre-season "soap scrimmage." Started as a junior at both fullback and linebacker and again late last fall. Also plays soccer and is a member of the National Art Honor Society. Son of Kurt and Marlys Kossman. His mother, the former Marlys Murray, was a cheerleader at Chadron State in the mid-1970s.
Darren Mohr, North Platte, 6-3, 240 pounds, center. Started at center for North Platte High the past two years and also did the team’s long-snapping. A teammate described Mohr as having "outstanding potential." "When we play flag football, he’s the quarterback." Also played first base for the Legion baseball team. Son of Rich Mohr and Beth Topkey.
Chase Olsen, Sidney, 6-4, 275 pounds, lineman. Started at offensive and defensive tackle since his sophomore season and was a Class B all-state choice last fall. He also averages nearly 10 points and 10 rebounds for the basketball team and throws the shot and discus for the track and field team. Played in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl this summer…Son of Chris and Leanor Olsen.
Ben Woodhead, North Platte, 5-8, 175 pounds, receiver-defensive back. As a junior, he caught 29 passes for 358 yards and was expected to be a receiver again last fall. But when the projected starting quarterback suffered an arm injury in an early practice, Woodhead moved to quarterback, Although he previously had played the position in just one game as a sixth grader and, in his words, "couldn’t throw the ball at all at the start of the season," he completed 70 of 128 passes for 1,030 yards and rushed 136 times for 769 yards while helping the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record and the Class A championship game. He also started at cornerback and returned kickoffs as a junior and plays soccer in the spring. He has a 3.98 grade point average. Both of his parents, Mark and Annette Woodhead, are Chadron State graduates, and his father was a wide receiver for the Eagles in the early 1980s.
