Morrill Named D-1 Player of Year
Fittingly, Creighton's Jacob Morrill had his career end as it had began, him being a thousand-yard rusher.
With over 5,800 yards rushing and being named all-state three straight seasons mixed in for good measure.
As much for his career standing - becoming just the fourth player to rushed for a thousand yards all four years of their career - as for what he did in his star-spangled senior season, Morrill has been named Huskerland Prep Report's Class D-1 player of the year.
In 2013 Morrill ran for 1,939 yards and 34 TDs while leading his team to 11 wins and a berth in the state playoff semifinals. His glossy career numbers include 5,981 yards and 90 touchdowns.
"Jacob is a very dynamic football player that possesses a great combination of power, speed, and vision," says Creighton head coach Jeff Jensen. "With each practice and game, Jacob brought a disciplined, focused approach. More importantly, Jacob is a very self-less player that was willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the team and Jacob is genuinely a great kid that will be extremely successful in the game of life."
And the kid's humble, too. Lots of attention was showered upon Morrill this fall as he approached, then reached the goal of a fourth thousand-yard season. Great has he's been as a high school football player, he wanted to make sure to share the spotlight with his teammates.
"In many conversations with Jacob, we never wanted this to be only about him, but a milestone that many people and teammates helped him accomplish and he did a great job of thanking those that have blocked for him and supported him through the years," says Coach Jensen.
Having earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, Morrill is expected to enter the medical field after college and his football opportunities are many, though currently he's still the process of sorting them all out.
