b>1. Norfolk Catholic: Led by 2011 HPR C-1 player of the year Jordan Bellar, the Knights may not be as deep as in recent past but this program has produced three straight state finalists, including C-1 championship teams the past two years. Who else would you pick?

2. Wahoo: These are the best days of the Warrior football program in the playoff era. Led by senior all-state RB Tyler Kavan, they are good enough to win the whole thing. (Did we mention Wahoo plays Norfolk Catholic on Sept. 21?)

3. Adams Central: A semifinalist in Class B in 2011, the Patriots return to C-1 where, led by all-state RB Jake Fowler and outstanding linebacker Jesse Ackerman they should be in the title mix.

4. Pierce: While this bunch lacks the star power of some recent Pierce teams, the Bluejays will once again be a powerhouse. Senior Nate Meier, a versatile, tough skill player and linebacker, leads the way.

.5. Columbus Lakeview: Like Wahoo, it seems as though the future is now for Lakeview, which is aiming to get back to the state final for the first time since 1990. A big step in the right direction would be to win that opener...against Norfolk Catholic.

6. Kearney Catholic: A year removed from reaching the state football playoff finals for the first time in school history, the Stars move up from C-2 to C-1. They shouldn't miss a beat, led by all-state linemen David Squiers and Austin Lowery, part of a strong senior class.

7. Boys Town: With few experienced players back - though RB Trey Scott and lineman Jacob Kramer are two of the best in C-1 - the Cowboys will find a way to once again be winners. Dropping from Class B to Class C-1.

8. Boone Central/New. Grove: When I have talked to C-1 coaches over the off-season one of the most talked about teams in the class is this one. Added depth thanks to the cooperative with Newman Grove and the return of outstanding QB Tanner Mazour are keys.

9. Lincoln Christian: Granted, the Crusaders are moving up a class and also lost a strong senior class, but the return of players line all-state candidate Austin Powell will help make them top ten worthy.

10. Bishop Neumann: Another vote of confidence for a program that, on paper, lacks the experience and depth to be ranked in the top ten. Coach Tim Turman has built a winner here and we see no reason to jump ship.
